Mouth Cemetery, Montague MI

This little cemetery in Montague is unique if only for its location. Getting there takes you down a dirt road, past private residences, and suddenly the road ends here. It's small and old, and the graves are located in a narrow strip that precipitously drops down to White Lake.
We wandered in looking for Captain Robinson, the first lightkeeper of the White River Light Station. He and his family rest together, complete with some information.
His father has the fancy headstone with the anchor on it.
We came across an open well and a death-mask headstone.
In spite of the cemetery's remoteness it appears to be well-visited.
There's a legend about a man sitting in a chair in this cemetery and then dying exactly a year later. Whoever set up this adjacent space is apparently not afraid of that. There was plenty of seating.
There are lots of old stones and had we more time we would have explored further.
Although there are rumors about this cemetery being haunted, coming here at night is not recommended. It's remote, and is surrounded by private property and White Lake.
