Jones, Michigan

Jones is located south of Kalamazoo and between Cassopolis and Three Rivers. It's fairly typical of a small, rural town in Michigan but Jones has a unique history.
Back in 1964, the man who invented kitty litter, Edward Lowe, took a stretch of the town and converted it into the "Old West." Designed as a tourist attraction, the concept never took off and today you can take a short ride down the somewhat deserted street where it was all meant to happen.
The Tumbleweeds building is the only one we could confirm as being part of the "western town" but there are plenty of other old buildings nearby, and one inhabited by a well-armed person or persons.
We stayed in the car and did not walk around. It's an interesting little bit of Michigan history.

  1. In the 50's we lived in Jones Michigan and went to a one room schoolhouse on the corner of M60 and M40. They built a 3 room schoolhouse next to it. Recently I came back to Michigan and the one room has been torn down and the 3 room is now part of the fire department. I cannot find any information on the one room on the internet. Does anyone have any information on this?
